Some Places Always Feel Like Home
Some Places Always Feel Like Home
This is a space for quiet reflection and shared experiences

Dear Friend:
Sometimes a song comes on the radio and instantly takes us somewhere familiar. Not just to a place, but to a feeling. To memories of home, old friends, familiar roads, laughter, family gatherings, front porches, or simpler moments we still carry quietly within us.
I was listening to “Back Where I Come From,” and I started thinking about how certain people and places continue to feel like home no matter how much life changes around us. I started thinking about the place where I grew up — Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
Although Lancaster County is known for its farms and countryside, I actually grew up in the city in a predominantly German neighborhood called Cabbage Hill. The neighborhood earned its name because the area sat high on a hill, and many German immigrant families planted cabbage gardens beside their homes. Even now, years later, certain songs, smells, traditions, and memories can instantly bring that feeling of home rushing back.
Life changes. People move. Seasons come and go.
But some places, songs, memories, and friendships continue to bring us back to feelings of comfort, belonging, and familiarity.
And sometimes that feeling of home is not really about where we are.
Sometimes it is about who and what we carry with us along the way.
What are your favorite memories of home?
Until next time, stay well, stay safe, and stay connected to those you love.
Be well,
Emma
