The Peacefulness of Nature
The Peacefulness of Nature
Pull up a chair and sit awhile
September 24, 2026
Dear Friend:
I was sitting on my balcony this morning, looking out at the trees and thinking about the peacefulness of what lay before me. One or two trees have already begun to turn, but many have not. Mother Nature takes her time. She is not in a hurry. The leaves on each tree will gradually change, one tree at a time. The result? All that beautiful color on display. Then, one by one, the leaves will fall, and the trees will take a nap for the winter.
Even the animals participate in this peacefulness. Yes, some animals have their moments. That is how they survive in this world. But watching them move, play, and sleep can bring a sense of peacefulness. I remember sitting on the sofa watching my cats sleep or hearing them purr. And then there are the gentle ways cats and dogs love us.
The wind brings us peacefulness—the sight of wind moving across a field of grain, the gentle movement of a breeze through the trees, or the relief it brings on a hot day. There is something peaceful about the gentle sway of curtains beside an open window
We cannot forget water—the sound of waves on the beach, the sound of a babbling brook, the twinkling of water from a fountain, or the sound of rain on the roof.
Even mild thunderstorms have a peacefulness in between God's reminders that He is there.
I love watching the snow outside my window. It, too, brings a sense of peacefulness.
And who could forget a beautiful sunset, with all those peaceful colors? Each sunset is different.
Perhaps these are some of the gifts God gave us to help us slow down. To take a breath. To listen. To notice. And to remember how much beauty surrounds us when we simply take the time to look.
Until next time, stay well, stay safe, and stay connected to those you love.
Be well,
Emma
